Winner emerges at Microsoft contest in Armenia

YEREVAN (Arka)—The Blum Light team was named the winner of the Armenian national qualifying round of the Imagine Cup 2014 technology contest, Microsoft Innovation Center in Armenia today. The jury selected this team for its Fluff Planet application.

 

The purpose of the contest is to encourage students to develop new software and IT solutions that will stimulate innovations and solutions to global challenges. In 2014, the contest is being held in categories such as games, innovations, and a special category named “Citizen of the World.” The winner in each category will receive a cash prize of $3,000.

Fluff Planet is a mobile phone game with interactive animations and colors to help the player solve environmental problems and “cure” the planet. The goal is to raise awareness about environmental challenges.

Five teams won the right to compete in the national final. Under the new, modified rules, the winner of the national qualifying round will take part in another network stage where the selection will be made by an international jury on the basis of application and submitted video presentations. In case of going through this stage the team will represent the country at the international finale, scheduled to take place in Seattle in July.

The winner of the Imagine Cup in Seattle will receive a cash prize of $50,000. The Armenian national contest is coordinated by Microsoft Armenia and Microsoft Innovation Center.

The Imagine Cup is an annual worldwide student technology competition focused around Microsoft technology and encouraging young people to apply their imagination, their passion, and their creativity to technology innovations that can make a difference in the world. The competition has been running for 12 years. Armenia has participated in the previous six contests.
