STEPANAKERT (ArmRadio)—Stepanakert Airport has announced that it is now offering tourists sight-seeing flights around Artsakh in small aircraft. This will be the first commercial operation at the airport, which has had its opening postponed several times in recent years.

“The airport is a commercial organisation. Therefore, this offer certainly pursues commercial objectives, as well,” Director of Stepanakert Airport Erik Ohanyan says.

The airport is now offering to help travel agencies in organising aerial sight-seeing trips for travelers visiting Artsakh.

The airport will conduct the flights with small airplanes, Deputy Director of the Artsakh Civil Aviation Department Samvel Tavadyan said, adding that “the airport is also ready to serve those who wish to fly with their own planes.”

The airport and the Civil Aviation Department have also organised piloting courses to be offered to the public.

According to Erik Ohanyan, small aviation has good prospects for development in Artsakh. Besides serving tourists, it can be used for agricultural purposes, as well, Ohanyan says.

“We can spray pesticides or fertilize 150 hectares within an hour,” he explained.

As for the reaction of Azerbaijan, the Director said they are not worried about it. He considers that the neighboring country will only benefit if the fields in Karabakh are cleared of pests. He added that it’s even possible to find ways of cooperation with people across the line of contact.
