AEF approves $100,000 to establish IT Department at Artsakh State University

GLENDALE—The Armenian Educational Foundation (AEF) is proud to announce that it approved the $100,000 budget to fund a 4 year Computer Information Systems degree program, in Artsakh State University in Stepanakert will be called “AEF Computer Science Department.” The plans are set to launch the program later this year. The $100,000 will help finance computer hardware, software, instructor salaries, and student scholarships.

The project, a collaboration among Diaspora and Artsakh organizations, appropriately named “iArtsakh,” is an undertaking of Armenian Educational Foundation, Scholars for Scientific, Educational, and Cultural Development, Artsakh Prime Ministry and Artsakh State University.

The iArtsakh project extends AEF ongoing projects such as school renovations, recently renovated Artsakh State University dormitory, the computer for villages, IT training of village teachers, and university scholarships.  The iArtsakh project promotes IT, modern technology, higher education, employment and empowerment.

“We at AEF recognize the importance of economic development for Artsakh and believe that this project will have a big impact in developing the infrastructure needed to bring information technology companies to Artsakh” said AEF president Hermineh Pakhanians.

The iArtsakh project is looking for qualified candidates to teach courses for the Computer Information Systems degree at the Artsakh State University later this year.

“We have worked closely with officials at the Artsakh State University to develop the curriculum for the Computer Information Systems degree,” said Los Angeles based non-profit Scholars for Scientific, Educational, and Cultural Development board member Dr. Razmig Shirinian. “At this time we are accepting applications for instructors who will reside in Stepanakert and teach various courses.”

The new program will include basic CIS curriculum as well advanced courses in software design, database design, PHP, C#, Java and HTML5.

“Information about the open instructor position as well as an application are available on the “iArtsakh” section of SSECD.org,” said Shirinian. “We encourage all who are interested to apply no later than May 1st.”
