SYDNEY: Parents, friends and families joined the students and teachers of Galstaun College to witness the induction ceremony of the 2011 Student Leadership team.
The formal ceremony opened with the National Anthems and then an address from Head of College Carolyn Blanden, who introduced the College Captains Lillit Kahramanian and Antranig Shokayan. Lillit spoke in an inspirational manner about the role of a College leader and Antranig delivered his moving address in Armenian.
Primary Captains Aram Nazarian and Arkeena Mouradian read the traditional passages from Romans Chapter 12, which segued into the speech delivered by Head of Armenian Studies Assador Shokayan. Then Patil Sevagian touched the hearts of the audience with a beautiful rendition of her song 'My Only Hope'.
Blanden charged the new leaders with their responsibilities noting that they had been chosen by their peers to be the Leaders of our Student Body; a responsible office and one which will demand devotion to high standards and principles.
The students turned to face the College Community and pledged loyalty to Galstaun College, to seek to uphold the ideals and mission of the school and do all they could to set a good example of right conduct, of willing service and respect for all. They promised to strive to follow Christ’s example of selfless leadership and fulfill their responsibilities to work in the best interests of fellow students, teachers and the Community.
Fr Avetis then blessed the students in their new leadership role, and blessed their badges, prior to presenting them to the students.
The ceremony closed with prayers and the blessing followed by the College Song. The new student leaders and their families were welcomed to an afternoon tea after the ceremony.
