ARS Medical Seminar
On Saturday 13 August 2022, the Educational team of the Armenian Relief Society’s Regional Committee hosted the inaugural ‘Medical Seminar’ at the Armenian Cultural Centre. The event was attended by HOM members as well as members of the public.
The seminar featured four guest speakers: Dr Harry Patapanian (Specialist Rheumatologist), Dr Caroline Badam (Specialist Endocrinologist), Dr Alex Sahagian (Psychiatry Registrar) and Ms Tatiana Bedikian (Nutritionist) who presented on a range of medical and health-related topics, including rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes mellitus, depression and women’s nutrition. Following each presentation, the audience had the opportunity to ask questions.
At the conclusion of the event, the Chair of the Regional Committee, Eng. Nina Kaprielian, thanked the guest speakers and the members of the Educational Committee, including Arsho Kalloghlian, Ani Rajoyan, Anna Sayadian, Silva Pamboukjian and Hilma Sahagian. The guest speakers were then presented with a small token of appreciation.
The seminar was well-received by all and the Educational Committee will endeavour to organise a similar seminar in future.
ARS Inter-chapter Regional Meeting,
On Wednesday 17 August, ARS Australia Regional Executive Committee held an inter-chapter regional meeting to present two important agenda items to chapter members.
Firstly, members heard of experiences had by Engerouhi Nora Sevagian, Australian representative of the ARS Central Executive Board (CEB) during her recent visit to Armenia and Artsakh while participating in CEB meetings.
Members were briefed on the overall status of ARS activities in Armenia and Artsakh, its current programs, as well as how the region can reinforce its activities to ensure ongoing success of its charitable programs and humanitarian aid. Ung Nora conveyed the huge impact the ARS has had at the Mother and Child Birthing Clinic which has aided so many women and healthy births through the years and still going. She also expressed the importance of the ARS partnership with the wounded soldier’s Rehabilitation Hospital, that has treated more than 800 soldiers from the Artsakh war and where the ARS had a significant contribution.
Following this briefing, members heard firsthand the experiences, emotions and personal views of Artsakh resident and ARS Artsakh Sosseh Kindergartens Director, Engerouhi Artemis Grigorian. Engerouhi Artemis spoke of the realities of the recent Artsakh war, the hardships of the population, as well as their resilience, hope and determination for survival. The members in attendance took great interest in the presentations by asking several questions. The Regional Board expressed thanks and appreciation to both Engerouhi Nora and Artemis.
