Sydney- On Friday 30th May, Galstaun College hosted their annual “Grandparents Day” in the school’s Nalbandian Hall. While this event paid tribute to the relationship between the school’s infant and primary school students and their grandparents, the students also put on a vivid spectacle commemorating the first Armenian republic, known to all Armenians as “Mayis 28” (May 28).
The theatrics showcased by the students entertained the audience for several hours! Some segments were traditional, with children reciting poetry in both English and Armenian and dancing traditional Armenian dance, while others were funny and light hearted, causing the audience to constantly laugh out loud. Even the kindergarten and year one students graced that stage, dressing up as mice and crawling across the stage, reciting in Armenian. Face paint, tails and all, the audience watched in delight, as each production iterated the same message over and over again: the pride and honour felt to be Armenian.
Another highlight was the infant student's impressive modern and up tempo rendition of the alphabet (այբբենարան), with students lifting large cards with letters of the Armenian alphabet printed largely on it, showcasing a vibrant display of red, blue and orange (Armenia’s national colours) across the stage.

Principal, Mr Nishan Basmajian closed the concert by addressing the audience, reminding all grandparents that the high quality of the day’s show was because of the love and admiration that each students upholds for their grandmother and grandfather.
